Last week, we focused on curiosity. This week, let’s savor the small moments. As creatives, “noticing” is one of our most powerful tools. But how often do we pause to notice the seemingly mundane, the everyday details that are so easy to overlook? I often catch myself sitting at the keyboard, waiting for a big aha moment to appear—when, in fact, countless tiny moments full of potential are all around me, just waiting to be seen.
Embrace Micro-Moments of Inspiration
Pay attention to small acts of kindness or beauty around you—a friendly exchange, a well-timed smile, or even the way light filters through a window. Let these micro-moments inspire you and serve as seeds for new ideas or characters in your writing. Write them down to revisit when you need a spark.
Let’s Play: A Glimpse Through the Keyhole
Imagine you’ve come across a keyhole—a literal or metaphorical glimpse into a small, unexpected scene in your day. This “keyhole” could be a quick exchange at a coffee shop, a crack in the sidewalk revealing a sprout of green, or even a memory that popped into your mind without warning.
Write a short paragraph describing what you see or feel through this “keyhole,” but don’t zoom out. Focus only on this sliver of experience, as if you’re peeking at the world through a narrow lens. Then, ask yourself: What story might exist on the other side? What can’t you see?
Spend another few minutes jotting down any ideas or connections that arise from this tiny view, letting yourself wonder where it might lead. This exercise helps you appreciate the richness of small moments and practice letting inspiration sneak up on you from unexpected places.
I’d love to hear how this practice goes for you—feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
Have a great week and Happy Writing!
