Last week, we explored savoring small moments. This week, let’s focus on gratitude for the process itself—a mindset that can actually fuel creativity. Research in brain science shows that when we focus on the process over the outcome, we activate areas of the brain linked to curiosity and play, reducing stress and opening pathways to new ideas. I sometimes get so caught up in reaching the “final product” that I miss out on the unexpected insights and fresh connections that come when I’m simply immersed in the work. By embracing each step, we not only build resilience but also create the mental space where creativity can thrive.
Practice Gratitude for the Process, Not Just the Outcome
Writing is a journey. Cultivate gratitude for each part of the process—the quiet moments of brainstorming, the revisions, and even the challenging days. Recognizing value in every step can boost resilience and keep you connected to the reasons you write in the first place.
Let’s Play: The “Breadcrumbs” of creativity
Imagine your project as a winding path through a forest. Along this path, you’ve left “breadcrumbs”—small traces of your creative journey. Breadcrumbs aren’t just useful for finding our way home. They remind us that we are not lost but rather exploring. Jot down a few “breadcrumbs” you’ve left along the way: moments of insight, unexpected ideas, a sentence you enjoyed writing, or even the day you simply showed up despite not feeling inspired.
Choose one breadcrumb and describe it in detail. What did it feel like in the moment? How did it change your perspective or spark a new direction? Then, think about how each breadcrumb, no matter how small, has helped you stay connected to your project.
By recognizing these moments, you’re honoring the creative process as a journey of discovery and growth, where each breadcrumb matters as much as the destination.
I’d love to hear how this practice goes for you—feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
Have a great week and Happy Writing!
