Are you ready to submit? Let’s do this!
Submission update: Today will be the first time I am submitting in 2024. I still have 8 pending responses from last year and so far in January I’ve received 3 rejections.
Today I will submit 3 pieces to 9 markets.
How about you? Leave a comment below if you were able to submit your writing today. We will celebrate together!
Don’t Self Reject!
It’s a new year and a brand-new opportunity to practice sharing your work. Whenever you press the submit button, you share your work with at least one other person! One other person who may end up becoming a raving fan regardless of whether your work ends up published.
I get it; putting our hearts on paper and then sending it out into the world is scary. The fear of rejection can be paralyzing, but here’s the deal - we’ve got to believe in our craft. Don’t be the first one to doubt the magic you’ve poured into your work. Rejection doesn’t define us; it refines us. Every no is a step closer to a yes. Each rejection is a badge of courage and something worth celebrating – proof that you dared greatly. So, let those words fly. Submit your work with the confidence that it deserves to be read. Be the writer who believes in the power of their story because you never know whose heart it might touch. Embrace the journey, learn from the setbacks, and keep writing.
The world is waiting for your unique voice, and it’s time to share it unapologetically.
Today, I'm on a mission to pick the things that uplift my well-being. Writing, and sharing my writing is at the top of that list. We're all works in progress, and every new beginning is a chance to shine brighter. Embrace the restarts with enthusiasm, because each one is a step toward your best self. You've got this!

Want to learn something new about craft?
I admit it, I’m a workshop junkie. I love learning about craft, and yes – workshops are my #1 writing distraction. It’s so easy to avoid the actual writing if I’m learning something new! But (gulp), here’s the truth: I need to write more and maybe enroll in less workshops this year. Yet, the learning aspect of writing is so much fun. But, of course, workshops aren’t the only way to learn about craft (that was not a tremor in my voice. I am not hyperventilating right now. I. Am. Not.) I stumbled upon Nina Schuyler’s Substack: Stunning Sentences the other day and I have been just having a blast dissecting and playing with sentences. It’s like a quick workshop fix (sigh). I love the way she walks us through beautiful sentences and the exercises she suggests at the end of her analysis are so helpful. I get to learn something new and practice at the same time – and still have plenty of time to write.

If you didn’t have anything ready to submit today, no worries… we will submit our work again on Sunday, February 18th.
Happy Writing!
I love Nina! I found her several months ago and was able to take a class with her. She is lovely in person as well.
Congrats on the submissions and rejections! It is always a process, isn't it?
